There are so many islands in the Caribbean that it can be hard to know which one is best for you. The Dominican Republic should definitely be considered if you are looking for a luxurious paradise with beautiful beaches. This tropical country shares an island with Haiti and has some of the world’s top beaches, magnificent resorts, and hotels.
I personally LOVE the island and the amazing people there. The Dominican Republic is the most diverse Caribbean country. Still, the passion for music, dance, hospitality, and delicious gastronomy unifies the whole island.
When considering the DR for your vacation, I recommend staying in one of three areas: Punta Cana, Cap Cana, or La Romana. They are all easily accessible by a short flight to the Punta Cana International Airport PUJ. From there, it’s only 15-20 minutes to Cap Cana, 25-45 minutes from most resorts in Punta Cana, and about 40 minutes to the resort area in La Romana.
Punta Cana
It has the most resort options in the DR. It boasts crystal clear and endless beaches on the Atlantic Ocean with swaying palm trees, just like what you imagine when speaking about the Caribbean.
Cap Cana
It is sometimes confused with Punta Cana. It is a luxurious gated community with amazing grounds located near the point where the Atlantic Ocean merges with the Caribbean Sea. This area has beautiful white sand beaches with smaller waves.
La Romana
This is also situated on the Caribbean Sea but will have smaller waves than the Punta Cana area. The turquoise beaches and fewer resorts are perfect if you dream of a quieter and more peaceful place.
If you are looking for a modern Caribbean resort vibe with luxurious service, the Dominican Republic could be the perfect island for you. The resorts are stunning, and many are much newer than those on some of the other Caribbean Islands.
There are a ton of activities and options for excursions you might want to consider when going to the Dominican Republic. An island’s favorite is swimming with dolphins! It’s so much fun and truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
If you’re willing to spend some time in a car, there are some breathtaking waterfalls, lush valleys, and ancient Taino caves that you can visit. You also can visit the capital Santo Domingo and experience its modern atmosphere and island history.
With all the options that the Dominican Republic offers, we know it can be overwhelming trying to decide which area is best for you. That’s why we’ve been to the best resorts on the island and would love to help you plan and book your vacation to the Dominican Republic.
