Ready to make your vacation dreams a reality?
While many Antigua visitors come for its trademark 365 beaches, its sister island Barbuda is not to be missed. It can be challenging to detour away from Antigua’s idyllic and pristine beaches, but rest assured, there’s just as much beauty to see next door!
So if you’re in the process of planning your Caribbean getaway to Antigua, don’t forget to save a day or two to check out Barbuda.
What to Do in Barbuda
Located 27 miles north of Antigua, Barbuda is the quiet and serene paradise you’ve been looking for. It’s the perfect destination for a day trip or a short and sweet overnight stay. While you’re there, be sure to check out these top things to do on the island.
Frigate Bird Sanctuary: Home to one of the largest Frigate bird colonies in existence.
The Caves at Two Foot Bay: See ancient carvings from the Arawak Indians along with stalagmites and stalactites.
17 Mile Beach: The secluded beach oasis of your dreams! Here you’ll find nothing but miles of soft sands and turquoise waters.
Darby’s Cave: The largest cave in Barbuda teeming with life, from vegetation to birds and frogs.
How to Get to Barbuda from Antigua
There are three ways to get to Barbuda from Antigua, each with different pros and cons. The first option is via helicopter. While this is the quickest and most convenient way to reach the sister island, it is predictably the most expensive and not the most accessible avenue for the average vacationer.
The second option is with a small plane. This can be a good choice for those traveling in a small group. Although it’s the mid-priced option out of the three choices, the transportation times can be limited.
The final and most common way to travel from Antigua to Barbuda is through the Barbuda Express Ferry. For around $45, you can get a round-trip ticket between the two islands. The only downside is that each ride takes about 90 minutes, but you’ll have plenty of departure times to choose from over six days a week.
With the Express Ferry, you’ll be able to take day trips and excursions or even spend a few days on the island if you choose. Unlike the other two transportation options, you aren’t limited to strict flight schedules.
