Located in the Philippines on the northern tip of Palawan Island, El Nido is so much more than any vacation destination. And it’s hard to describe that feeling without sounding a little dramatic. But if you’ve ever stepped off a boat and felt your entire body exhale, you know exactly what I mean.

Big Lagoon is wide and awe-inspiring—like nature’s version of a cathedral. You glide in by kayak through a narrow opening, and then suddenly everything opens up. The cliffs rise up around you like they’ve been there forever (because they have) as you kayak through the clear waters. It’s quiet in the best way. Peaceful. And unlike any place I’ve ever been.

Small Lagoon is just as amazing. You paddle through a tiny crack in the cliffs, and it’s like entering another world. It’s calm, still, and utterly magical. It’s the kind of place where you lose track of time in the best possible way.

And while I’ve visited countless beach destinations, none have made me feel the way El Nido does. It’s beautiful, still and truly slows your pace down. The way it makes you feel is like you’re somewhere truly special. Like you’re part of something that hasn’t been overly touched or polished for Instagram. It’s raw and real and soul-filling.
