Ready to make your vacation dreams a reality?
If you’ve been trying to decide between Costa Rica and Colombia for your next trip, you’re probably already realizing it’s not such an easy choice. Both sound amazing. Both have the kind of scenery that’ll make your phone storage panic. And both offer adventure, nature, and those “I can’t believe we’re really here” moments.
But the truth? They feel very different once you’re actually there.
Key Location Differences
Costa Rica is calm. Not boring calm — peaceful calm. It’s the kind of place that invites you to slow down without even realizing you’re doing it. You land, step outside, and suddenly the air feels a little cleaner, the pace a little slower, and your shoulders a little less tense. Nature is front and center in Costa Rica. You’ve got cloud forests, waterfalls, sloths, monkeys, thermal springs, beaches on both the Pacific and Caribbean, and the kind of jungle adventures that you can’t fully describe in photos.
What I really love about Costa Rica is how easy it is to have two totally different experiences in one trip. You can start your trip in the Arenal region, ziplining through the trees, hiking around the volcano, soaking in hot springs under the stars — and then head to the beach to unwind, dig your toes into the sand, and sip something fruity while watching the sun dip behind the ocean. That balance between active and restful just works. And the whole time, you’re surrounded by a country that really values its environment and its people.
Now Colombia… Colombia has a totally different energy. It’s vibrant, expressive, full of personality. You hear music in the streets. The colors are bright, the food is bold, and the culture is everywhere you turn. It’s one of those destinations where you don’t just see the place — you feel it.
In Cartagena, you’re walking through historic streets with brightly painted buildings, grabbing fresh arepas from a street vendor, watching the sunset from a rooftop bar with a view of the old city walls. In Medellín, you’re riding the cable cars over the valley and visiting art-filled neighborhoods that have turned their stories into murals and music. And the coffee region? Picture lush green hills, charming towns with colorful balconies, and quiet mornings sipping local coffee in the cool mountain air.
Colombia offers nature, yes. But it also gives you culture and depth. You can spend the morning exploring cobblestone streets and learning about history, then head off to a jungle hike or a quiet beach by afternoon. It’s that blend of experiences that makes it feel so rich. For travelers who love a sense of movement, connection, and variety, it checks a lot of boxes.
Now I know what you might be wondering — is Colombia safe? It’s a fair question, and one I hear often. The answer is yes, absolutely, when planned properly. I only send my clients to places I trust and where I know you’ll be looked after. We partner with incredible local teams who are experts in the area. They’re warm, professional, and they make the trip feel seamless. So you’re not left guessing, and you’re never on your own.
Budget-wise, Colombia often gives you more value. Boutique hotels, private tours, and amazing meals that don’t come with a shocking bill. Costa Rica is worth every penny, but some of the more popular areas can be a bit pricier than people expect. We talk through all of that, and I help you figure out what’s realistic for your trip and what matters most to you.
Costa Rica or Colombia: How do you choose?
If you’re craving a trip that’s centered around nature, with time to breathe, explore, and disconnect a little, Costa Rica might be the right match. It’s grounding, it’s beautiful, and it’s easy to love.
If you want something a little more dynamic — where culture, color, music, and movement are part of the rhythm — Colombia might be the one. It’s exciting in the best kind of way. A little unexpected, in all the right ways.
And if you’re still not sure between Costa Rica and Colombia? That’s where I come in.
