The Pitons are two mountains located in St Lucia. They are both volcanic and rise to a height of over 700 meters. The mountains are part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site and offer stunning views of the surrounding area.
These two volcanic peaks rise out of the Caribbean Sea and can be seen from almost anywhere on the island. There are many ways to visit these iconic mountains, but which one is right for you? Here is a breakdown of the different options:
1. Hike
One popular way to see the Pitons is to hike up one of them.
This is an excellent option for those who are fit and enjoy hiking.
The Gros Piton hike is 3.2 miles and takes about three hours round trip, while the Petit Piton hike takes two to three hours.
Many consider them to be an intense hike so be prepared.
Remember to wear sunscreen, insect repellent, and comfortable shoes, as the terrain can be challenging in places.
If you’re not up for the hike, there are other ways to see these incredible natural wonders.
2.Sunset Sailing
This is an excellent option for those who want to relax and take in the sights.
You can sit back and enjoy the ride as you sail past the Pitons.
There is also the option to go swimming or snorkeling off the boat.
Then the Piton Sunset Cruise is the way to go!
This cruise lasts for around four-five hours and incorporates dinner and drinks, so you can sit back and relax while enjoying the fantastic views.
3. Mutiny Explorer Excursion
Those who want to see the Pitons up close, but don’t want to hike – can go for explorer excursions.
The excursion includes a boat ride to Soufriere, where you will see the Pitons from the water.
You can also stop at the Diamond Falls and Botanical Gardens before returning to your boat.
It a fantastic day and our clients love this experience!
4. Walk Through The Jungle
Another way to visit the Pitons is by taking a guided walk through the jungle.
This is a great option if you are up for a challenge and don’t mind getting sweaty while taking a stroll through the dirt road.
The walk takes about two hours and includes some steep sections, but the views are worth it!
The thick overgrowth, rocks, roots, and humidity can make this walk challenging, but it is also gorgeous.
You will likely see some interesting plants and animals along the way, so bring your camera.
If you decide to do this walk, wear comfortable shoes, sunscreen, and insect repellent.
It is also a good idea to bring a bottle of water and a snack.
