If you’re like me, you hate waiting in lines— especially at the airport. Whether you’re about to catch a flight for your vacation or on your way home, getting stuck in long security checkpoints is the last thing you want.
Fortunately, there is an option to fast-track your way through most U.S. airports with Global Entry. With this VIP status, you can get in and out of airports quicker than ever.
What is Global Entry?
Global Entry is a program offered by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) that expedites clearance through customs and immigration to pre-approved, low-risk travelers arriving in the United States.
Program membership currently costs $100 currently and is valid for five years. If you fly even just a few times a year, the $20 a year Global Entry benefits are well worth it.
Benefits of Global Entry
One of the main benefits of Global Entry is that you have special access to a quicker customs and immigration line after returning from an international trip. Global Entry members can go directly to designated kiosks to present their passport and customs declaration instead of waiting with the rest of the passengers to complete the process face to face with an officer. Many times there are almost no lines for global entry passengers.
Another great benefit that comes with Global Entry is TSA Precheck. This means that even if you’re flying domestically, you still have the perk of using the fast lane at security. With TSA Precheck, you don’t have to remove the typical items such as shoes, coats, liquids, or laptops. While going through the regular security checkpoint could take up to an hour or more, TSA Precheck with Global Entry gets you through in just minutes.
